Wedding Day Overview: Part 1 - Introduction

If you’re like most people, you may not be sure what to expect when hiring a wedding videographer. You may have heard horror stories of the videographer accidentally tripping the bride down the aisle, causing her dress to rip, and then her accidentally throat-kicking the ring bearer in the neck on her way down. This, of course, causes her such embarrassment that she has to move to Belize and change her name to Francesca Flowers just to escape the humiliation.

Okay, admittedly, that was a bit of an extreme example and slight exaggeration, and I have yet to see this at any of the weddings I’ve shot in Ontario. However, one common concern on many couple’s minds is that their videographer might be intrusive, cause them to feel awkward, or just generally be in the way of their day. So, a very frequent question that I get is, “What does your process look like for the actual wedding day?” The couple would like an idea of where the videographer is going to be throughout the day so they know what to expect. This comes from a fear of the unknown, a fear I can say most couples experience. My goal with the following series of articles is to set your mind at ease and give you one less item to worry about - that, of course, being your wedding cinematographer getting in the way during your wedding day.

Over the next four weeks, I’m going to be giving an overview of where I am and what I do during:

  1. Bride / Groom preparation (getting ready)

  2. Ceremony

  3. Picture taking/time with the couple post-ceremony

  4. Reception

Working together is the key to a successful day for everyone, in my mind. So, for every part of the day, I’m going to give a few tips that couples can use to work with their videographer to reduce their stress and make the day go as smoothly as possible. Stay tuned!
